Work is Quiet

A quiet farm blog means farm progress is occurring. The brain is tired. As are the shoulders. And the back. And the legs. Feet are good though, yay new boots.

It’s clearing season again. We doubled our pasture area in fall of ‘21 and since then have been working on removing piles and piles of tree stumps mixed with literal tons of dirt in Pasture 4. The process is to sow grass in October, hands off all winter/spring to let the seed germinate and root, pray for rain. Summer is for grazing and it’s too hot for the tractor to work, poor thing. So we have 8-12 weeks in late summer/early fall to knock out as much as we can before the cycle restarts and we seed in October.

This year has been knock down drag out progress. We’ve started on pile #6 (I think?) to be cleared and opened up about an acre of land that the tractor won’t have to work around brush piles to seed. Which is good, since we have more than a few little mouths to feed.
