New Kid in Town

Well, it happened. The moment we’ve been waiting for and dreading for months finally came. Our first calf to a first time heifer was born! I feel so blessed that she needed no help from us and I got to just show up to a newborn baby!

For the love of Garlic

I love garlic. Grilled, baked, smashed with cream cheese, Im not picky. They say I’m afraid of vampires. But 1) have you ever seen one at my place? Nope. And 2) I’d be toxic to them anyways. What umami is to vegetarians, garlic is to me.

Gone to Market

Peak adulting is being excited about a new stock pot. Peak farming may be getting excited about rain and a cancellation at the meat processor.

Watching the grass grow

Summer is a time for watching grass grow, making sure everyone has water, and worrying about when hay will be cut. I have no idea when hay will be ready, water tanks are in sufficient shape, and Toby checks the grass situation for me. So I guess my work here is done!

Swimming in Butter

-ery yellow chicks. We hatched out chicks all summer of 2020, and have been thrilled with our hatch rates! The last hatch of 2020 consisted of 22 eggs, of which 20 hatched! I sell quite a few hatching eggs as well, and have received positive feedback on hatching rates from buyers.

Spotty Cows

Well, on the one hand, cows with spots are adorable. Think Texas Longhorns or British Whites (which I DESPERATELY want!). However, spotty cows are a problem. A few weeks ago, we noticed that one of our cows had rubbed off a lot of hair from under her jaw and on her neck.
